I have been programming professionally for about 20 years and most of that time has been spent using Delphi starting with version 1 in 1996. The software I write is used to control various types of machines used for testing car and truck tires. The software is responsible for performing tests ranging from measuring tire performance, running tires until they fail, to measuring tire wear. The software is also used to produce final analysis and reports based on customer requirements.
How I Became Involved with Exercism.io
I first visited exercism.io in August of 2016 during a monthly meeting of the Akron Code Club. I liked the site a lot, it has many different programming languages to choose from. However, at that time, it lacked Delphi. After reviewing instructions regarding contributing to the site, I reached out the founder, Katrina Owen, to see if she would be interested in adding a language track for Delphi…
For the past six months I have been working on building up the Delphi language track. The track has been online for a few months now, designated as upcoming. On or around April 2nd, 2017 the track will become active.
During my time building the Delphi track I reached out to Mr. Jim McKeeth at Embarcadero to see if it would be possible to receive an open source license for Delphi that would permit us to utilize Delphi to test build new exercises that contributors may submit via. pull request. During our email correspondences I was invited by Mr. McKeeth to join the Embarcadero Most Valued Professional (MVP) Program.
